This is a a brief insight into the young life of Annika Petersen, a high school student living and thriving in Singapore. Living 8,000 miles from my hometown (Portland, Oregon) has taught me to love travel, try new things and appreciate the differences between cultures. I have tried weird foods, met colorful people and stayed in rather interesting dwellings, all of which has given me an appreciation for the art of life and culture in different places. My love for art extends to fashion, beauty and art history and someday I will fulfill my dream of going into fashion marketing. I would like to work for a fashion and or beauty brand that gives back to society through sustainability and giving to organizations. I would also love to become a makeup artist if I have the opportunity. I love to think about colors and textures; aesthetics and trends. I enjoy sketching my fashion designs, practicing new makeup techniques as well as special effects makeup. I have enjoyed being in charge of hair and makeup for the ICS school play the last two years. Although makeup and Special effects have been my art of choice for a long time i found pottery this year which I loved. Working with clay has opened my eyes to how simple the material is, but how creative you can be with it. However, in 3D art class I found a love for working with glass. I think it is amazing how dangerous, beautiful and fragile it is at the same time. I think it really represents human life and how we need to treat each other with extra care since we are fragile but with love we can be beautiful. I have many role models, but someone who I greatly admire is Audrey Hepburn. With my love of fashion and volunteering/philanthropy she has greatly inspired me. I have been inspired by so many amazing women both in my life and people I look up to who I don't know. I'm very inspired by many makeup artists, one of which is Pat McGrath, who has revolutionized the beauty world. She has shaped the makeup world and worked in editorial, runways since the early 90's. She has made a name for herself and somewhat recently she created her own brand which only launched in 2015 but is worth almost $1 billion. I'm very inspired by someone like Pat McGrath and Anastasia Soare who have both worked very hard for their dreams, been able to create their own brands and change the beauty world for the better. These are just three people who inspire me however their are so many other people in my life who I am so thankful to know! As a creative person, I always strive to find new inspiration. I tend to find this inspiration through quotes, literature and the works of other creative people. Websites like Pinterest allow me to see many ideas all at once, which helps to spark my creativity. In regards to makeup, I enjoy watching videos of aspiring makeup artists as they revolutionize the beauty world. |
